Despite its additional door, the exterior dimensions of this 3 + 1 do not improve compared to a classic 500 (3.63 m), making it possible to retain the excellent aptitudes in urban environment, in particular in terms of turning radius.

But suddenly, the habitability does not improve either.

Therefore, boarding four adults of average size can only be done on short trips, due to very limited headroom and legroom at the rear.

On the other hand, the additional door brings an undeniable advantage in terms of accessibility. With opposing opening ("upside down"), it can only be opened when the front door is already open, since the handle is located on its inner part. This allows you to take advantage of a wide opening, which will be appreciated by adults and adolescents called to sit in the back, but also young parents who will no longer have to contort themselves when securing the children in their car seat. The Fiat 500 3 + 1 is only available with an electric drive of 87 kW (118 hp). An engine well enough to easily take the city car, including the addition of the small door and its mechanism increase the total weight only 30 kg. That's still 1,395 kg, the battery alone already weighing nearly 300 kg.A weight all in all substantial, which had to be counterbalanced on the road. The damping is therefore very firm, which may prove uncomfortable when crossing speed bumps and on degraded roads.

Greedy

This does not prevent the Italian from showing a lot of rigor in her road behavior.

Even on roads and motorways, where heading and stability remain unwavering, even at high speeds.

But it is of course in town that the 500 does wonders, especially when the Range driving mode is activated.

We will then benefit from an optimized recovery of energy to amplify the autonomy, which results in a very marked deceleration when the accelerator pedal is released.

This will make it possible to slow down to a stop without even touching the brake pedal.

A function called "One Pedal Driving" which is particularly well dosed and progressive, which is not always the case.

Conversely, Normal mode only has little deceleration and regeneration.

Thanks to its 42 kWh battery, the 500 3 + 1 promises up to 305 km of range and even 433 km in an exclusively urban cycle.

During our tests, we noted a consumption of around 17 KWh / 100 km, quite high given the size.

What to hope to reach 250 real km, quite sufficient for a city car.
