Your old phones might get a second life.
Carrefour will install smartphone take-back terminals in its stores, reports BFM TV.
The large-scale retailer has joined forces with two partners for this new service: ecoATM and Back Market, a company that deals with the sale of refurbished devices.
Phone against gift card
The operation is simple: the customer brings his old phone to the ecoATM terminal, which will recognize the model.
An estimate of the value of the device is then made using a price list established in advance.
If the estimate is satisfactory for the customer, he leaves his phone in exchange for Carrefour gift cards valid throughout the store, specifies BFM TV.
Recovered phones are reconditioned by ecoATM before being offered for sale on the Back Market.
Devices that cannot be resold are boned so that certain components can be recycled.
About fifty terminals have already been installed in Carrefour stores and 135 more should see the light of day by the end of the year.
A total of 250 stations should be available in January 2022.
