After a sharp drop between November 2018 and December 2020, inflation started to rise again.

Over one year, consumer prices rose 2.6% in October, after 2.2% last September.

An increase in inflation which is mainly due to the acceleration in the prices of energy and services.

Consumer prices rose 2.6% over one year in October, after 2.2% in September, INSEE confirmed on Tuesday.

"This rise in inflation results from an acceleration in the prices of energy (+ 20.2% after + 14.9% in September) and services (+ 1.8% after + 1.4%)" , details the National Institute of Statistics in a press release.

Driven by energy prices

Tobacco prices rose at the same pace as in September (+ 4.8%), while those of manufactured products and food slowed down, to + 0.3% and + 0.7% respectively.

Over one month, inflation reached 0.4%, after -0.2% in September, further confirms INSEE.

The rise was once again driven by energy prices.

Over one year, the harmonized consumer price index (HICP), which serves as a basis for comparison at the European level, also accelerated to + 3.2% in September, after increasing by 2.7% the month latest.

Over one month, it increased by 0.4%.
