The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, on Monday ruled out any new postponement of one year of the repayment of loans guaranteed by the State (PGE) granted to companies affected by the health crisis, already postponed to March 2022.

"I do not envisage a universal measure" of new postponement of the reimbursement of PGEs, already postponed by one year by the government, from March 2021 to March 2022, declared the minister in front of the employers of the hotel and restaurant industry.

"The economy is restarting, the consumers are there"

"I think the remedy would be worse than the disease," he added at the 6th GNI-Synhorcat congress, which brings together the independents in the sector.

"Shifting back by one year, I think this general, cross-cutting measure is not good for anyone," continued Bruno Le Maire in front of several hundred owners of cafes, hotels, restaurants, caterers or nightclubs, meeting Monday and Tuesday.

"I could have considered it if the economy had not restarted, if we were still in a situation of great economic difficulty, but, there, we will achieve at least 6.25% growth: the economy is restarting, the consumers are there, ”he pleaded.

More than 690,000 PGEs have been granted for more than 140 billion euros since the start of the health crisis in March 2020, making it possible to replenish the cash flow of companies in the face of a sudden drop in their activity.

"On the other hand, and this is the commitment I am making today in front of you, none of you will have cash flow difficulties linked to the reimbursement of PGE," said the minister, promising "solutions to the case. by case (…) so that there is an agreement between the banker and his debtor, under the authority of the State ”.

MEPs adopted last Friday the six-month extension of state-guaranteed loans (PGE) until the end of June 2022: this must await the green light from the European Commission, which is expected to vote on November 17, because they are comparable to state aid.
