The employment of disabled people is still lagging behind in France.

14% of them are unemployed, double the national rate.

Companies are however obliged by law to employ disabled workers, but many do not play the game. So for associations, we must crack down.

Today is the start of the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities.

This is the 25th edition of this operation which brings together companies, associations and job seekers.

It is also a way of attracting attention because even if the subject is less and less marginal, there is still work to be done to better support people with disabilities towards employment.

14% unemployment

One only has to look at the unemployment rate for people with disabilities to be convinced. It is 14%, twice the national unemployment rate. The disabled unemployed have two specificities. Their age first: just over half of them are over 50 years old. Another parameter: the difficulty of finding or finding a job. Over 60% of the disabled unemployed are long-term unemployed.

However, companies with more than 20 employees have quantified targets. They must have 6% of disabled staff in their payroll. The audience is almost there. The private sector is still far from it. And where the shoe pinches, it is especially in small businesses, explains Eric Blanchet, president of Adapt, the Association for the integration of disabled people. “It's a real topic because I think a lot of people with disabilities don't work in big cities, are in the countryside or in small towns and maybe could find jobs in small businesses. this is something that, as of now, has not been sufficiently dug, in my opinion. "

Regarding large companies, Eric Blanchet suggests setting up "name and shame", in other words publicly denouncing those which do not respect the objectives in terms of the integration of disabled people.
