In a survey that indexes consumption trends based on credit card usage information, last month it increased by more than 4% compared to before the spread of the new coronavirus, and turned positive for the first time in 11 months.

The state of emergency has been completely lifted, and consumption such as eating out is showing a recovery trend.

Data analysis company "Nowcast" and credit card giant "JCB" protect privacy based on card usage information and publish an index that shows consumption trends.

According to it, last month's index turned positive for the first time in 11 months, up 4.1% from the same month's average for the three years to 2018, before the spread of the new coronavirus.

The main reason for this is that the state of emergency issued in various places has been completely lifted and consumption related to going out has improved.

By field, the negative range for "accommodation," "entertainment," and "travel" has shrunk significantly, and "eating out" has improved by more than 30 points from the previous month to minus 0.4%.

In addition, the “fuel retail business”, which indicates a gas station, turned positive at 7.7% for the first time in 1 year and 8 months, and the impact of soaring crude oil prices was also seen.

A company that investigated the outlook for the future said, "Consumption is expected to recover steadily in the future, but if the sixth wave of infection occurs, it will cause a slowdown in consumption. We would like to continue to monitor the infection trend."
