You may have noticed while shopping in recent days: the prices of some products have increased.

The surge in prices affects agricultural raw materials, in particular wheat, but also the rise in the prices of industrial materials such as cardboard and plastic.

All of this has an impact on the prices on the shelves, and it is not over yet.

TO ANALYSE

Who hasn't noticed while shopping: most food items have gone up.

If we take the price of pasta, for example, some brands - particularly private labels - are up 10% compared to before the summer.

But this sharp increase does not affect all products.

Moreover, if we look at all food products, inflation has only been 1% since January 1.

"We must expect an increase in the basket" by the end of the year, confirms the specialist in mass distribution, Olivier Dauvers.

And to add: "Since you have raw materials as important as cereals or coffee in terms of content, and raw materials as important as cardboard or plastic, in terms of the container, this it is impossible to pass through the drops. "

There is no doubt for the specialist, "we will obviously pay more for our food products in mass distribution".

Inflation closely monitored by the ministry

Another factor that could impact prices: trade negotiations between producers, manufacturers and distributors.

They have just started and will end on March 1st.

At the Ministry of Agriculture, they say they are monitoring the situation closely, to limit the surge in prices.
