The accident occurred in Brea, south of Los Angeles (United States), on November 3.
The driver could not have regained control
"The vehicle was in FSD Beta mode and while taking a left turn the car entered the wrong lane and I was hit by another driver who was in the lane next to mine," recounted the owner of this Tesla Model Y at NHTSA, the US agency for road safety.
The driver could not have regained control of his vehicle.
“The car gave an alert about halfway through the turn, so I tried to turn the steering wheel to keep it from going into the wrong lane, but the car took control of itself and committed anyway, ”added the owner.
Autonomous Driving System Investigation
Following this incident, which fortunately did not cause any injuries, the NHTSA indicated its willingness to investigate the FSD.
The American road safety agency particularly wishes to obtain information on the public beta of this autonomous driving system.
At present, this technology cannot be freed from the supervision of a human being, which proves that it is not yet fully operational.
