Do you plan to take advantage of the next school holidays to take your tribe elsewhere in the world?

To avoid unpleasant last-minute surprises, it is better to make sure you have the administrative procedures to be undertaken in advance to be in the nails.

Identity card, passport, parental authorization ...

When preparing for a stay abroad, the first instinct of any traveler is of course to ensure the validity of their identity document.

Sufficient in the European Union, the identity card is valid for fifteen years (ten years for new cards issued since August 2021), against ten years for a passport, the key to traveling abroad.

But beware, this only applies to adults.

The identity cards of minors are in fact valid for ten years, while their passports must be renewed every five years to leave the territory.

Because your children too, no matter how small, must be in possession of one or other of these official documents when crossing the border.

A possible visa

Contrary to popular belief, the family record book, which compiles all the civil status documents of your household, cannot under any circumstances serve as proof of identity for a trip, nor be requested by the foreign authorities.

It is only used for certain administrative procedures, replacing a copy or extract of an act.

Finally, be aware that depending on your country of destination, a visa may also be required but also, if the child only travels with one of his two parents, proof that the other has authorized the stay.

This is particularly the case in Switzerland, Morocco or Bosnia.

It is therefore better to check with the embassy or consulate to find out what documents to present.
