The German Dax share index soared to a new record high at the start of trading on Friday.

The top German index climbed 0.2 percent to 16,117.10 points.

Speculation of an imminent rate hike in the face of accelerated inflation in the United States, however, dampened investors' buying mood somewhat.

Among the biggest winners in the Dax were the shares of Deutsche Telekom, which rose by 2.7 percent after another forecast increase.

Siemens was on the losing side with a discount of 1.3 percent.

In the M-Dax of the medium-sized values, Knorr Bremse went four percent downhill.

The commercial vehicle and train supplier was unable to convince investors with its figures.

For the year as a whole, the company is forecasting sales of EUR 6.6 billion to EUR 6.8 billion and is narrowing its previous range of EUR 6.5 to 6.9 billion somewhat.
