Telefónica prepares a new plan for voluntary redundancies.

The company is already considering opening a negotiation table with the workers' representatives, who have asked the management to clarify whether it plans to smooth the departure of its employees.

According to the data handled by the company, collected by EL MUNDO, Telefónica estimates that this process could affect a maximum of 4,500 exits, taking into account the firm's workers who are currently over 54 years of age.

The formula for these exits would again be that of the Individual Suspension Plan (PSI), as happened in 2019, when 2,636 workers ended up leaving the company, who continued to be paid with 68% of their compensation until retirement age .

Currently, Telefónica estimates that its workforce includes up to 4,500 professionals who, by age and according to the final conclusions, could benefit from the new PSI.

Company sources foresee that the number of departures will finally approach 4,000 and, at least, it will be estimated at 2,000.

There are still all the negotiations that have not even been formally raised, but the final calculation, according to the percentages of secondment of other similar plans (62% in the last PSI), is between 3,000 and 6,000 people.

In the unions they have already moved tab, especially because this Friday there would be a meeting of the delegated commission of the Board of Directors of Telefónica, and this issue should be on the table.

"Aware of an imminent meeting of the Company's Management, from UGT we have addressed this body so that, immediately, it can pronounce itself to clarify the situation", they have transmitted from that union, which warns: "The future of the company cannot go through a permanent reduction of costs through the reduction of the volume of the workforce ".
