Syria: protests after a drone attack -attributed to Ankara- against the Kurds

Hundreds of people marched in Qamichli on Wednesday, November 10, in northeastern Syria to protest a drone attack that killed three people the day before.

The Kurdish forces which administer the region accuse Turkey of being behind this attack.

The three victims of the drone attack which hit a car are said to be relatives of an SDF commander, the Syrian Democratic Forces, who in recent weeks have been the victims of numerous clashes with the Turks.

Turkey occupies a large swath of territory north of Syria.

It has launched three large-scale military operations since 2016. The last in 2019 in the northeast, a

region administered by the Kurds

Ankara accuses the Kurdish militias of being linked to the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers' Party considered a terrorist organization. 

Multiplication of snaps

Last month Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to lead a new offensive in northeastern Syria after two soldiers were killed in an attack.

But for the moment despite the multiplication of clashes, the violence remains limited.  

The civilian population finds itself trapped in the situation.

Some villages are occupied by the Turks and their auxiliaries, some inhabitants had to flee and are now refugees in camps.
