Emirates Global Aluminium completes Al Taweelah smelter expansion

Emirates Global Aluminium, today, announced the completion of the operations of the company's Taweelah smelter expansion project in Abu Dhabi.

The company said in a statement that the expansion added 66 new reducing cells to the three production lines, which contributes to raising production capacity by about 78,000 tons of metal annually, strengthening the company's position as one of the largest aluminum smelters in the world.

The company indicated that it has relied on the use of its own technologies in all its expansion operations since the nineties of the last century, in addition to the fact that it has re-updated all its old production lines using local technologies developed by Emirati hands.

The CEO of the company, Abdel Nasser bin Kalban, said, “The completion of the Al Taweelah smelter expansion project is an important step towards enhancing our production capacity to meet the growing market requirements, especially after the recovery phase from the (Covid-19) pandemic,” noting that “the implementation of the implementation has been completed. The expansion process was less than the allocated budget, on schedule, and without any work-related injuries, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

And he indicated that "the 2,843 reduction cells in EGA use our own highly efficient technologies developed locally in the UAE, which represents one of our most important competitive strengths."

It is noteworthy that the Taweelah smelter expansion project included three phases, where the first phase was completed and operations began in April, while the second phase was completed in July, while the last phase of the expansion witnessed the installation of 14 new reduction cells in the third production line.
