The acting Federal Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer (CSU) has warned against the dismantling of the railway in the rail network and operations.

"Anyone who wants to break the railroad and thus weaken it in international competition is endangering the company and the interests of our country," said Scheuer to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"The international orientation of a global corporation and of course the concentration on the national core business is the right future concept for the railway," explained the minister.

"Fundamental reform yes, dismantling no."

A reform of the Deutsche Bahn was "without question necessary," said the CSU politician.

Companies would block each other, the organization chart of the group is far too broad.

"I planned such a reform, only then did Corona come." According to Scheuer, breaking it up would "massively weaken" the financial basis of the group.

“A sale of DB Schenker would be a sale of German table silver,” he explained.

Traffic light is supposed to plan breaking up

Spiegel magazine reported on Friday that the traffic light parties were discussing the dismantling of Deutsche Bahn's rail network and operations.

The Greens and FDP are in favor of a separation of network and operation, the SPD against it.

The state-owned company is expected to double the number of passengers by 2030.

According to the report, the FDP wants to sell more competition on long-haul routes and the profitable logistics group DB Schenker in order to repay debts and redeem money for investments.

The Pro Bahn passenger association is in favor of a break-up, as is the Monopoly Commission.

Unions and the left spoke out vehemently against it.
