After a more positive summer than expected, Spain received

almost 4.7 million international tourists in September,

which is half of those who arrived in 2019, without a pandemic, but three times more than those who arrived in 2020, the first year of the health crisis.

The spending of these visitors was 5,400 million euros,

compared to 9,700 million for the year without Covid, according to data on border movements and tourist spending published by the INE.

So far this year

the number of tourists visiting Spain is close to 19.7 million, just 17% more than in the same period in 2020, when 16.8 million arrived.

We have added just two more tourists out of 10.

Even so, these data show a recovery compared to 2020 and follow in the wake of those of the central summer months (June-August), where, especially at the end, there was a recovery higher than expected, mainly thanks to to the high national demand.

Until August the arrival of internationals had been contained by the restrictions that still existed on travel.

In September we were mainly visited by Germans, specifically 829,269.

The United Kingdom returns to the podium of issuing countries, with 785,478 tourists, while the French arrived 687,480.

Regarding the accumulated expenditure during the first nine months of this year, it reaches 21,939 million euros.

In the same period of 2019 it was 73,830 million, which means that around 50,000 million have been lost, or stopped entering.
