Spanning the world, hundreds of cities, and 14 time zones, the annual summit for top scientists-the 4th World Top Scientists Forum came as scheduled.

This cross-border, interdisciplinary, and cross-field international science and technology exchange platform allows the world's top scientists to communicate, discuss, speculate, and harvest here, and it has become a beautiful business card for Shanghai to build a global influential science and technology center.

This year's Top Technology Forum will "Open Science: Building an Open Innovation Ecosystem" as its annual theme.

Why has open science become an urgent need for top scientists?

Michael Levitt, the vice chairman of the World Association of Top Scientists and winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, gave a very poetic answer: "Open science provides a path to a better future." He initiated the initiative on behalf of the World Association of Top Scientists. At present, human beings are facing huge challenges such as the spread of epidemics and climate change, and there is an urgent need for science to provide better solutions.

In fact, the scientific spirit of sharing information and resources internationally is precisely an open spirit. Scientists need more open scientific exchanges to jointly solve the problems faced by mankind.

Wan Gang, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, believes that in dealing with common challenges concerning the destiny of all mankind, the global scientific and technological community needs to strengthen high-level open cooperation, provide systematic and high-quality scientific research solutions, and respond to the concerns of people around the world. .

In a sub-forum of the Top Science Forum, Bruce Alberts, the winner of the 2016 Lasker Special Achievement Award in Medicine, showed an old photo during online sharing. The photo shows him with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of India, and other countries and countries. Scientists in the region discussed problems together in a McDonald’s shop. The big scientists were all excited, “We need scientists from all over the world to cooperate to solve huge and complex problems. Sometimes open cooperation is not only to solve scientific problems, but also to contribute to the prosperity and peace of the world. ".

Just like Wan Gang's appeal to the global scientific community, "We must jointly undertake the mission of open science and common development, and join hands with the international scientific and technological community to jointly respond to the major challenges of the development of human society."

my country will continue to actively advocate the spirit and concept of open science that is borderless, barrier-free, and non-discriminatory, strengthen scientific knowledge exchange and technological innovation cooperation, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind with high-level effective actions of open cooperation.
