Germany is heading for the next Corona winter with high numbers of infections and a terrifying realization: Nobody knows how well the residents in old people's and nursing homes are protected from the virus.

Some federal states are very far with the important booster vaccinations, but many others do not know where they stand - after a year and a half of the pandemic, crucial information is still missing.

The same applies to the vaccination rates of the nursing staff: there are no reliable data, but at least in some of the facilities the nursing staff are apparently unwilling to do everything to protect the people entrusted to them.

The increasing number of outbreaks in the homes, which due to the declining vaccination protection now lead to the death of residents, should be a warning signal to everyone: It is now important to act decisively and consistently.

And yes, that includes more testing, including for vaccinated visitors and caregivers.

Germany has already failed to protect the weakest.

This must not be repeated.
