Beijing, October 31st (Reporter Li Hui)

Since late September, due to the superimposed effects of severe weather, production costs, epidemic prevention and control, and power cuts, the prices of some areas and some vegetable varieties have risen significantly.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued a notice to make arrangements for the production of autumn and winter vegetables, requiring all levels to maintain vegetable production and supply as an important task at present, strengthen production guidance, do a good job in production and sales, and ensure a balanced supply in the market.

At present, all localities are working hard to implement the "vegetable basket" mayor responsibility system, coordinate production, circulation and consumption, ensure the perennial vegetable plots in big cities, the self-sufficiency rate of important vegetable products and the quality and safety of vegetable products, and ensure sufficient emergency vegetable reserves. Effectively stabilize the market and prices, and ensure the supply of vegetables in autumn and winter, especially during the New Year's Day, Spring Festival and Winter Olympics.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs requires that, in order to ensure a balanced supply, all localities must rationally determine the structure and production scale of vegetable varieties in accordance with the principle of improving self-sufficiency and ensuring a balanced supply capacity, especially to arrange the shortage of varieties in the winter and spring seasons and the listing schedule.

Large and medium-sized cities should focus on developing leafy vegetables and local characteristic vegetables that are not durable for storage and transportation, and steadily increase their self-sufficiency.

In the northern facility vegetable production areas, the focus will be on the utilization of idle greenhouses, the connection of crops and intensive seedlings to increase production and supply.

The southern region should actively develop southern vegetables and transport vegetables to the north, and increase the amount of transfer.

The alternative supply base of raw materials for the Winter Olympics should strengthen the implementation of responsibilities and cooperation, further improve the emergency plan, strictly implement the requirements of safety management, epidemic prevention and control, and ensure the stable supply and quality of vegetable products during the Winter Olympics.

Experts suggest that in view of the possible impact of La Niña, an emergency plan for disaster prevention and mitigation in vegetable production should be formulated as soon as possible, and material and technical preparations should be made in advance.

Vegetable production areas in the north should reinforce vegetable greenhouses in advance to prevent cold and heat and reduce the impact of low temperature, rain, snow, and windy weather.

Southern vegetable production areas should implement measures to prevent and reduce disasters in advance, such as clearing ditch and drainage, prevention and control of pests and diseases, and raising seedlings to prevent cold and heat preservation, strengthen monitoring and early warning and prevention and control of pests and diseases, vigorously promote unified prevention and control, and reduce the damage caused by pests and diseases.
