The price of electricity in the wholesale market (pool) has rebounded this Sunday by about 1% to stand at
213.29
euros per megawatt hour (MWh), once again remaining above the barrier of 200 euros / MWh and marking the highest price since there are records for a Sunday.
In addition, the price of this Sunday, the day on which economic activity decreases and energy demand is lower, multiplies by fourteen the amount registered by the pool during the fourth Sunday of October last year (14.78 euros).
Thus, electricity will be
2% more expensive today than last Sunday
, just a week ago, although it is 26% below the record of 288.53 euros / MWh registered on October 7.
With this new increase, in the first 24 days of October the barrier of 200 euros / MWh has been exceeded on 17 occasions, eleven of them consecutively, causing that so far this month a average price of 206.25 euros / MWh, which would become the most expensive month in history.
The prices of the wholesale market have a direct impact on the
regulated tariff or PVPC
, to which almost 11 million consumers in Spain are welcomed, and serves as a reference for the other 17 million who contract their supply in the free market.
By time bands, the maximum price for today will be recorded between 1:00
p.m. and 10:00 p.m. with 256.95 euros / MWh
, while the minimum will be 179.21 euros / MWh between 4:00
p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
17:00 in the afternoon.
The price escalation that affects a large part of Europe is due, among other factors, to the rising cost of gas in international markets, which is used in combined cycle plants and which sets the market price in most hours, and the increase in the price of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission rights.
