A survey result showed that the amount of time spent using smartphones has increased significantly since the outbreak of COVID-19.

The Korean Academy of Medicine and the Korea Medical Biomedical Journalists Association conducted an online survey on the 'Status of Digital Media Usage Before and After the Corona 19 Pandemic' targeting 271 teenagers aged 15-18 and 1,000 adults aged 20-69 across the country. He said that this was the result.

The proportion of the 'overuse' group of respondents who used their smartphones for more than 4 hours a day was 38% before the COVID-19 crisis, but has risen to 63.6% after the COVID-19 crisis.

In addition, the number of people watching digital media videos for more than 4 hours a day for purposes such as entertainment other than learning also increased from 22.5% before Corona 19 to 46.8%, which more than doubled.

The trend toward increased time spent on smartphones and digital media before and after the COVID-19 crisis has been seen in both adolescents and adults.

This survey was conducted as an online panel survey from the 8th to the 15th of this month, and the sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points in the 95% confidence interval.
