The rule to regulate the advertising of unhealthy food in which the Ministry of Consumption has been working since October last year

also

provides for

restricting ads on social networks

of this type of products.

The goal of the department headed by Alberto Garzón is to fight childhood obesity and,

as it has already done with the gambling law

, it considers that limiting advertising helps prevent it.

So far there is a self-regulation code, the PAOS Code, by which companies limit messages addressed to children under 12 years of age.

The idea is to go further, although it

is not yet known what nutritional profile these products will have, nor

whether this advertising will be censored based on time slots (during children's hours) or will act on specific audience profiles.

Defining junk food is not so easy and controversial.

One of the options

is to follow the European front labeling system, called Nutriscore or nutritional traffic light, which classifies food according to its quality from A to D and facilitates the consumer's understanding.

From Consumption they insist that none of these aspects have yet been defined and that they are working on it.

In addition to online gambling and unhealthy food, the ministry will also regulate sexist advertising, first of all in games and toys, according to Minister Garzón himself last week.
