The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has revised the target standard for energy-saving performance of home air conditioners for the first time in 15 years in order to promote decarbonization, and has decided to oblige manufacturers to reduce power consumption by up to 30%. ..

This was shown at a council of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on the 18th.

The revised target standard for energy-saving performance of home air conditioners is scheduled to come into effect in April 2022.

For example, the

policy is to reduce power consumption

by about

30% for air conditioners that are used in the area of about 14 tatami mats and about 10% for air conditioners that are used in

the area of about 6 tatami mats

.

A grace period will be set for manufacturers for five years after the revision of the standard, and it will be obligatory to achieve it by 2027.

We will be able to take measures such as recommendations and orders for manufacturers who could not achieve it.

This is the first revision of the standard in 15 years since 2006.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry intends to encourage the product development of each company by revising the standards, and intends to reduce domestic carbon dioxide emissions by popularizing air conditioners with high energy-saving performance.

It also aims to help Japanese manufacturers capture demand for energy-saving home appliances overseas.
