Former Bank of Korea Governor Lee Kyung-sik passed away yesterday (15th) at the age of 88.



Former Governor Lee was born in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province in 1933. He started public office at the Bank of Korea in 1957 and served as president of Daewoo Motors, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economic Planning Board, and governor of the Bank of Korea.



During the foreign exchange crisis during the Kim Young-sam administration, in December 1997, he signed the International Monetary Fund IMF bailout application with Im Chang-ryeol, then Deputy Prime Minister of Economy.
