Since the start of the health crisis in France, the cost of PCR and antigen tests has amounted to more than 8.8 billion euros for Health Insurance, according to what was budgeted until the end of the year 2021. From Friday, unvaccinated people wanting to be tested will have to pay themselves out of pocket.

This is a particularly salty note for Health Insurance. The bill for PCR and antigen tests carried out since the start of the health crisis in 2020 amounts to more than 8.8 billion euros according to the budget planned until the end of 2021. In detail , this represents 2.6 billion euros for 2020, and three times more this year. Granted, not everyone who took a PCR or antigen test did not have to pay for it. This changes from Friday: unvaccinated people will have to pay between 25 and 44 euros to be tested for Covid-19.

For comparison, the price of tests for the general public in Germany can go up to 120 euros, 180 euros in Spain and 200 euros in Sweden.

In France, only people vaccinated with contact cases already vaccinated, and minors still benefit from free tests.

Exceptions for which the cost in 2022 is already estimated at 1.6 billion euros.
