“Energy issues are important reasons for the EU's greater cohesion in its relationship with Russia,” he wrote on his blog.

Borrell noted that the EU and Russia are dependent on each other in the energy sphere, and recalled that earlier the EU countries did not always show a unified approach in relations with Moscow.

“The EU depends on Russia for fuel imports, but the Russian economy and the state also need revenues from energy supplies,” he stressed.

Earlier Borrell said that the EU risks losing its ability to be a full-fledged player in the world arena, becoming an object of the policy of world powers.
