Data issued by the Central Bank revealed that the checks circulating in the market that were cleared through the “Central” system amounted to 91.7 billion dirhams for 1.75 million checks, during the month of August, while the total value during the first eight months of this year reached 714 One billion dirhams for 14 million checks.

The number of checks and their large value reflects the volume of commercial transactions and the movement of economic activity in the country, as well as the return of the various sectors to the cycle of recovery.

The Central Bank clarified in the data issued yesterday that the balance of certificates of deposit owned by banks and held in return for a cash balance with the Central Bank that can be liquidated, amounted to 156.7 billion dirhams, at the end of last August, compared to 150.6 billion dirhams at the end of the previous July, with a monthly increase of 6.1 billion dirhams.

The figures showed that the total assets of the Central Bank, denominated in dirhams, recorded an increase of 6.7 billion dirhams last August, to reach at the end of the month 482.3 billion dirhams, compared to 475.6 billion dirhams at the end of the previous July.

The Central Bank’s assets denominated in foreign currency recorded during August 2021 an increase of 7.9 billion dirhams, to reach 412.1 billion dirhams at the end of August, compared to 404.2 billion dirhams at the end of July 2021.

The Central Bank's investments in foreign securities, including bonds, treasury bills, and others, amounted to 122.4 billion dirhams at the end of last August, compared to 121.9 billion dirhams at the end of the previous July, with a monthly increase of 500 million dirhams.

The current accounts and balances owned by the Central Bank with foreign banks within its foreign assets amounted to 248.5 billion dirhams at the end of August 2021, compared to 241.5 billion dirhams at the end of the previous July, with a monthly increase of seven billion dirhams.
