The American aircraft manufacturer Boeing is introducing mandatory vaccination for contractors from US federal agencies as part of an order issued by President Joe Biden.

"By December 8, the approximately 125,000 US employees must either present a vaccination certificate or take recognized, reasonable protective measures as a result of a disability or sincere religious beliefs," said Boeing.

The US airlines American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Alaska Airlines as well as the aircraft parts manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems also declare that they will adhere to the deadline prescribed by Biden.

Meanwhile, Boeing handed over 85 passenger and cargo jets to its customers in the third quarter.

In the course of the year so far, the deliveries add up to 241 machines, as the company announced in Chicago on Tuesday.

This puts the US group well behind its European rival Airbus.

In the first nine months of the year, 424 machines were delivered and 40 machines were delivered in September alone.

In addition to the Corona crisis, the main reason for Boeing's backlog is the long-term flight bans for the medium-haul 737 Max. The manufacturer has only been able to deliver machines of this type again since November 2020 and is only slowly ramping up production.

In addition, Boeing cannot deliver many 787 “Dreamliner” long-haul jets for the time being due to technical defects and has further reduced production.

However, in the current year, after deducting cancellations, the US group has so far brought in orders for 302 aircraft.

Airbus only had 133 newly ordered machines.
