Two years ago, they were in tents in Tahrir Square in Baghdad demonstrating against the government.

Today, they are entering Parliament.

Members of Emtidad, one of the parties formed after the 2019 uprising, do not hide their joy.

We are happy that the demonstrators now have a loudspeaker in Parliament and the first act we will do will be to find the people who killed the demonstrators,

" said a member of the party.

He assures him, the members of the party will not accept any government post and will form a real opposition force, to represent the demonstrators of October 2019. “

We will stick to our plan which is not to do alliances with corrupt political parties which have only squandered public funds

 ”.

Many demonstrators decided to boycott the poll this Sunday and not to support these parties.

Hassanein, 32, was one of them.

“

These political parties do not represent the ambition of all the demonstrators and the Iraqi youth.

Me

I boycotted the election

because I think that the electoral environment is very bad,

launches there.

Afterwards, if they can fix Iraq, then so much the better, I hope.

 "

A mixed hope, but a hope nonetheless, when nearly 60% of Iraqis did not go to the polls this Sunday.

The sign of great disillusionment among the population.
