Masdar develops 5 solar energy projects in Iraq

The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) announced the signing of a strategic agreement with Iraq to develop five solar photovoltaic projects in Iraq, with a total production capacity of one gigawatt.


Masdar signed an implementation agreement with the Ministry of Electricity and the National Investment Commission in Iraq to develop the five projects in different regions, including a 450-megawatt plant in Dhi Qar governorate, two 100- and 250-megawatt plants in the city of Ramadi, a 100-megawatt plant in Mosul, and a 100-megawatt plant. megawatts in the city of Amarah.


And “Masdar” stated in a statement yesterday, that the agreement was signed by the President of the National Investment Commission in Iraq, Suha Al-Najjar, the Director General of the Investments and Contracts Department in the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Maha Hamoudi Abdul-Jabbar, and the CEO of “Masdar”, Muhammad Jamil Al-Ramahi, In the presence of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al-Mazrouei.


Al Mazrouei stressed the importance of the agreement in supporting Iraq's efforts to achieve its energy goals and reduce the consequences of climate change.


He said, "Through this important agreement, we look forward to exploring more opportunities in the region, which is rich in its natural resources, and to consolidate our partnership with our brothers in Iraq, with the aim of enhancing the development process that the country is witnessing, and to ensure a better and sustainable future for the region."


For his part, Al-Ramahi said that "the agreement strengthens the solid relations between the UAE and Iraq, and allows the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the two countries."
