To realize a carbon-free society, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will invest up to 70 billion yen from a national fund to expand the use of ammonia, which does not emit carbon dioxide even when burned, and will use only ammonia as fuel by 2030. He showed a policy of aiming to develop equipment that can generate electricity.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry held its first international conference online on the 6th for the utilization of ammonia, and was attended by government officials and business officials from countries producing natural gas, which is the raw material for ammonia.

In this, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has announced a policy of aiming to develop equipment that can generate electricity using only ammonia as fuel by 2030.

Ammonia does not emit carbon dioxide when burned, but the problem is that it produces harmful nitrogen oxides.

For this reason, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry says that it will invest up to 70 billion yen from the national fund to develop technology for stable power generation while keeping nitrogen oxide emissions within the range of environmental standards.

On top of that, we would like to export the developed technology to Asian countries, which are highly dependent on coal-fired power generation, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

On the other hand, ammonia used as fuel for power generation has problems in terms of stable procurement, so the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has started to consider making rules for international transactions with electric power companies and trading companies, and has become a natural gas producing country. We will strengthen the cooperative relationship with the company and proceed with the construction of the supply network.
