Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inspected the site of the “Dubai Mountain Summit” and “Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls” projects in the Hatta region, which are among the major projects implemented by the authority in the region.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, had approved six new projects in the Hatta region, to announce the launch of a new prosperous development phase in it in various sectors, and built on the foundations of the great success of the Hatta development plan, which was launched in 2016, and made the region a leading tourist destination.

These projects will contribute to the development of the Hatta area in a large and vital way, at all levels, including turning it into a locally and internationally attractive site on the tourism level.

Al Tayer was accompanied on his tour by the Executive Vice President of the Production Sector, Engineer Nasser Lootah, the Project Manager, Engineer Khalifa Al-Badwawi, and the project team.

During the visit, Al Tayer listened to a detailed explanation from the project manager on the latest developments related to the approval of engineering designs for the Dubai Mountain Summit project. He was also briefed on the implementation timeline, challenges at the site and how to overcome them.

International consultants specialized in this field were appointed to ensure the completion of the project according to the highest international standards in quality, safety and security.

Al Tayer stressed the keenness to implement the “Dubai Mountain Summit” and “Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls” projects, using the latest, most advanced and safe technologies, to suit the geological factors of the region, while observing the highest international environmental standards to preserve the Hatta Mountain Reserve.

Al Tayer explained that the projects implemented by the authority in Hatta will provide 200 jobs in the technical, administrative and operational fields, and more than 300 jobs in the visitor center, outdoor activities and tourism facilities.

He added that the new projects will contribute to achieving comprehensive development in this region, especially the "Dubai Mountain Summit" project, which includes the construction of a 5.4-kilometre cable car, to transport tourists from the Hatta Dam area to the Umm Al-Nsour summit in the Hatta region, the highest natural peak in the Emirate of Dubai, with a height of up to to 1300 meters above sea level.

He pointed out that the project will constitute a new tourist attraction, adding to the many attractions that the UAE enjoys, noting that the cable car route will pass over the Hatta Dam lake and the upper dam lake for the hydroelectric station project, implemented by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority in Hatta, passing through the mountain range. Until it reaches the top of Umm Al-Nisour.

Al Tayer explained that the project includes three main stations, including the departure station that will be built on an upper platform above the Hatta Dam, and linking it to car parks using an advanced means of transportation, the intermediate stop that contains a viewing platform and facilities to serve tourists, and an international hotel that will be built according to the highest specifications and standards. And the summit station, which will include a panoramic viewing platform, facilities to meet the needs of tourists, and hotel suites belonging to the main hotel.

He pointed out that the project will include mountain climbing tracks and recreational facilities, in addition to other services that provide a world-class tourist environment.

final designs

In addition, Al Tayer was briefed on the progress of work on the “Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls” project, which began in May 2021, where the consultant submitted the project’s initial study and it was approved.

It is noteworthy that DEWA is currently in the stage of preparing the final designs and material specifications, to prepare the project tender documents to be submitted before the end of this September, provided that the envelopes are opened and the project contract awarded by mid-November 2021, and that the project will be completed and opened by mid-November 2022.

Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls

The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project is one of the prominent projects that will be implemented during the coming period, by investing the slope of the Hatta Dam and using it as a natural waterfall, and creating a water stream along the car parks below the dam, so that this water can be collected at the end of the stream, recycled, and pumped to the part The upper slope, in addition to fish farming, which constitutes an additional attraction for children and families, as well as developing the area to include recreational spaces and restaurants.
