The volunteer team at Expo 2020 Dubai consists of university students, employees, housewives, retirees, in addition to people of determination, with Emirati citizens making up 45% of the volunteers.

The volunteers have completed more than 40,000 hours of training so far, demonstrating their readiness to welcome visitors from all over the world.

With the support of Etisalat, the official partner of the Expo 2020 Dubai volunteer program, Expo 2020 Dubai received more than 180,000 “expressions of desire” to volunteer, far exceeding the expected number.

The volunteers at Expo 2020 Dubai have completed more than 40,000 hours of training so far, demonstrating their readiness to receive visitors from all over the world as of October 1, while the training is expected to continue over the coming months to prepare volunteers to fulfill their roles in the exhibition.

Thousands of volunteers also attended an introductory experience at the Dubai Exhibition Center at the Expo 2020 Dubai site, which is one of 13 similar sessions designed to educate and inspire, while fully adhering to safety measures to combat “Covid-19”.

The extensive training program for Expo 2020 Dubai volunteers is designed to give them essential skills and knowledge relevant to their roles, while demonstrating genuine Emirati hospitality that will help create unforgettable memories for millions of visitors to the global event over its six months.

The volunteers also undertook a training trip full of participation, to ensure their readiness for the event, which included e-learning and face-to-face training sessions with Expo 2020 Dubai experts.

The 19-year-old Emirati volunteer, Suad Al Marzouqi, said: “I am proud of my work as a volunteer at Expo 2020 Dubai, especially as it is my first experience working in a global professional environment, and I am confident that I will learn a lot here, more than I would have learned anywhere else. Especially in terms of dealing with visitors of different cultures and customs.


Volunteer Samir Mazumdar, 21, from India, said: “I am pleased to be part of this wonderful and huge event, which the UAE has been preparing for about 10 years, and I look forward to witnessing many events and behind the scenes, not only as a visitor, but as a contributor to it as well.”


Australian volunteer Cardela Coulson, 57, said: “I am Filipino, but I immigrated to Australia, so I consider myself a global citizen.

I feel happy to be participating in this historic event, where my grandchildren can be proud of me in the future.”


She added: "Participation in (Expo 2020 Dubai) is an experience of a lifetime, I am 57 years old now, but I am very excited to work in this event, and I look forward to getting to know diverse people from different parts of the world."


As for the Emirati volunteer, Kinan Abdul Ghani, 28, he explained that he joined the Expo 2020 Dubai volunteers because of his desire to serve his country and return part of its bounty to him.

He said: "As soon as I had the opportunity, I did not hesitate and joined the volunteers (Expo), which is a great honor for me to represent the UAE in this global event... I am very much looking forward to the opening of (Expo 2020 Dubai), and to working with my team within the international pavilions to learn about the cultures of More than 190 countries, in addition to their customs and traditions.

In the same context, volunteer Joe Muscaritolo, an American, said: “I visited the (New York Expo) in Flushing, when I was young with my grandmother and brothers, and he was the only one I witnessed.

Now I am in (Expo 2020 Dubai) as a volunteer and visitor, and what interests me most is the wonderful technologies and buildings, there are more than 190 countries participating, and I want to visit many of the pavilions of these countries.”
