  From July to August 2021, 20 provinces (autonomous regions) in China reported 49 new cases of illegal occupation of cultivated land to build houses after July 2020 that were discovered by local governments.

  As of the end of August 2021, 42 cases have been rectified, and the other 7 cases are under rectification.

  The reporter found that the typical cases reported in this report all occurred after July 2020, or the illegal construction continued until July but did not stop.

Nearly half of the cases involved illegal occupation of land for construction of houses, occupying a small area, and all of them have been demolished or are under rectification.

  Since 2020, Chinese officials have issued a number of policies to curb illegal occupation of cultivated land.
