Mashreq accepts payment via WeChat Pay

Mashreq Bank announced yesterday the acceptance of WeChat Pay payments with selected partners in the UAE, noting that this step follows the signing of an agreement between Mashreq and Tencent Holdings Limited, the official developer of the WeChat application.

In a statement, the bank stated that the mobile payment service will be provided through the “WeChat Pay” platform at a select group of Mashreq’s merchant partners across the country, explaining that customers who own the Chinese digital wallet will be able to pay bills. order goods and services, transfer money to other users, as well as pay within stores that support the WeChat Pay payment option.

Kartik Taneja, Executive Vice President and Head of Payments at Mashreq Bank, said, "WeChat Pay is one of the payment solutions that enables customers to make transactions directly through their mobile phones."

"WeChat Pay is a leading mobile payment service provider in China, with more than 800 million active users," he added.

Taneja explained that the platform serves a large group of Chinese tourists and residents in the UAE, as it provides them with the advantage of using this option to conduct a variety of cross-border transactions, when they are outside China.
