The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Rayes is going to announce this afternoon that the Government has decided to suspend the investment of 1,700 million euros for the expansion project of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport after verifying that it does not have the support of the Government of the Generalitat, reports La Vanguardia.
This project was agreed last August with the vice president of the autonomous government, Jordi Puigneró.
The expansion of the airport had strong opposition in part from the Catalan institutions because they considered that it affected an area of environmental value.
The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, has once again asked the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, to stop the agreement with Aena and has encouraged him and the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to visit the natural area of La Ricarda .
On the other hand, the project had been welcomed by almost all Catalan business and industrial sectors, for what it supposes to boost commerce and tourism in that autonomous community.
