At a meeting with a German diplomat who holds the post of the Federal Government's authorized representative for gas transit through Ukraine, Novak stressed that Germany “was, is and will remain” the main partner for the Russian fuel and energy complex in the European direction.

As the Russian government recalled, already in 2023, Moscow and Berlin will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the start of Russian gas supplies to Germany.

“During the working meeting, the possibility of using the Ukrainian transit route after 2024 was discussed.

The parties agreed to continue the relevant consultations, ”the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

Sergei Makogon, Director of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, previously said that Kiev needs the transit of Russian gas after 2024.

He would like to extend the agreement on this, without waiting for the expiration of the contract.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian side is ready to continue gas transit through Ukraine after 2024, but it needs to understand the volume of gas purchases in Europe.

The Kremlin recalled that Gazprom confirmed its readiness to transit gas through Ukraine after 2024, provided that it is economically feasible, and provided that the gas transportation system of Ukraine is in a normal, working condition.
