Technology supports carbon peak carbon neutrality

  Last year, my country's hydrogen production and consumption exceeded 25 million tons, becoming the world's largest hydrogen producer.

This year, more than 20 provinces have successively issued strategic plans for the hydrogen industry, and thousands of sails are competing in the "Hydrogen Installation".

  On September 4, as an important part of the 2021 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum, the "2021 Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Forum and the Eleventh Global Top 500 New Energy Enterprises Summit" was held.

Participants discussed the focus and trend of hydrogen energy utilization, safe operation and management of hydrogen energy industry, and hydrogen energy to help energy transformation from multiple perspectives.

  "As one of the cleanest energy sources, hydrogen energy is an important bridge connecting fossil energy and renewable energy. It has huge potential and a promising future. It will definitely play an important role in the process of my country's carbon peak and carbon neutrality. "Shanxi Provincial People's Government Vice Governor Wang Yixin said in his speech that as a pilot province for the comprehensive reform of the national energy revolution, Shanxi is a major coal province and a major hydrogen producer. It has unique advantages in the development of hydrogen energy, especially hydrogen production from coal.

  In recent years, many leading new energy companies have rushed to lay out the hydrogen power track in Shanxi. A number of key projects such as hydrogen production from coke oven gas and hydrogen production from chlor-alkali tail gas have been established one after another. The formation of industrial clusters is accelerating. The annual production of hydrogen in Shanxi Province exceeds 3 million tons, and the hydrogen energy industry in Shanxi has sprung up like bamboo shoots.

In the "14th Five-Year Plan" of Shanxi Province that has been issued, hydrogen energy will be cultivated as the "seven leading future industries" of Shanxi.

  "It is foreseeable that in the near future, hydrogen energy will be like coal, becoming the next beautiful business card full of futuristic atmosphere in Shanxi." Wang Yixin said.

  Dolf Gillen, Director of the Technology and Innovation Center of the International Renewable Energy Agency, also stated in the keynote speech that vigorously developing clean energy and new energy power systems are very important to the ecological environment.

At present, hydrogen energy has attracted the attention of countries all over the world and has been widely used.

  However, he believes that hydrogen energy still needs to be further explored and studied in terms of technology and economy. At the same time, the development of hydrogen energy requires a large amount of investment, so reducing the cost of hydrogen production is particularly critical at this stage.

At present, 98% of the world's hydrogen comes from gray hydrogen, 1% is green hydrogen, and 1% is blue hydrogen.

After several years of development, the cost of green hydrogen and blue hydrogen has been gradually reduced.

The electrolyzer is the basic equipment for hydrogen production from renewable energy, and it is necessary to realize the large-scale production of electrolyzers, so as to reduce the cost of hydrogen production to a certain extent.

  Doffer Gillen judged that the demand for hydrogen will continue to rise sharply in the future, and it is expected to reach 6 million tons per year by 2050, two-thirds of which will be green hydrogen.

In the hydrogen production process, the use of CCS technology can also increase hydrogen production and reduce hydrogen production costs.

It is estimated that by 2050, blue hydrogen production capacity will account for one-third of the total hydrogen production capacity, and green hydrogen production will account for two-thirds, which means that the total proportion of clean hydrogen will reach two-thirds.

  Lu Yuebing, Chairman of Air Liquide (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Climate Capital Group, also believed in his speech that hydrogen energy is a very good secondary energy due to its high energy density, storage and reactivity, clean zero emission, and flexibility. Energy media, therefore, play a very important role in realizing the transformation of energy from fossil fuels to non-fossil fuels, from high-carbon to low-carbon or even zero-carbon.

  He also reminded that the development of hydrogen energy has a bright future. At the same time, there are several key tasks to be done: the first is to make breakthroughs in technology; the second is to reduce costs; and the third is to support policies.

  Peng Suping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, also mentioned in his speech that the next 10-20 years will be an important period of opportunity for the development of my country’s hydrogen energy industry. It is necessary to closely link my country’s energy development reality and help achieve high-quality development of hydrogen energy. Actively plan technology, capital, and international cooperation, and solve development problems through reform and innovation.
