The Tarim Ethane to Ethylene Project was put into operation on August 30 and produced qualified ethylene on the same day. The 300,000-ton/year full-density polyethylene plant produced pellets on September 3, achieving a successful start-up and product shipment.
The project adopts the ethane steam cracking process technology independently developed by PetroChina, which has the dual demonstration effect of leading the comprehensive utilization of domestic natural gas resources with high added value and reducing the dependence on foreign ethylene process technology.
The raw material comes from ethane separated from natural gas in the Tarim Oilfield. Compared with traditional naphtha, hydrogenated tail oil, and diesel to process ethylene, ethane to ethylene has the advantages of high ethylene yield, low energy consumption, short process, and low cost. The ethylene yield can be increased from about 30% to 80%, the cost can be reduced by more than 30%, and the main economic and technical indicators such as the ethylene yield and comprehensive energy consumption can reach the world's advanced level.
