While the UAE celebrates Emirati Women’s Day, which coincided with the completion of the start-up of the operational operations of the second plant reactor within the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Plants project, the reactor’s operating manager, Hind Al Naqbi, was a pioneering model for Emirati women, in the main control room within the team responsible for operating the plant. The second, in Mashhad, highlights a career she started with the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, when she joined the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation team 10 years ago.

hard work

This synchronization was not just a coincidence, but rather the result of hard work and a long-term strategic approach, through which the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and its subsidiary Nawah Energy Company have focused, during the past decade, on developing ambitious plans that foresee the future of young female competencies, to reach the percentage of women's representation. Emirati women working in the nuclear sector in the country account for 20% of its total workforce, one of the highest rates of female participation in the sector in the world.

Hind Al Naqbi took her job at the Corporation's Nawah Energy Company, along with two Emirati girls after obtaining a license from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, as operating managers and operators of nuclear reactors, among the 30 Emirati citizens who obtained this license.

After graduating from the University of Sharjah with a major in electrical engineering, and joining the team at the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation in 2011, Hind Al-Naqbi looks back at her career, and where her determination reached her with a pride that transcends national and professional dimensions, to the pride of what the Emirati female competencies have become.

She emphasized that this distinction was the result of the golden opportunity provided by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and Nawah Energy Company through education, training and development, and assuming the pivotal and main tasks in the various stages of operational operations.

New generation

Al-Naqbi said: “The diligent follow-up of the pioneers of the national nuclear sector has contributed to the establishment of a new generation of young national competencies of women who will bear the responsibility of developing future generations, and enable women to play a major role in various economic and technical sectors, not only in terms of nuclear energy, but also to extend to other strategic areas.

She added: "This achievement would not have been achieved without the support of our leadership and the tireless efforts made by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (Mother of the Nation), as the main supporter of Emirati women, to become women. The UAE is central to the various key sectors in the country, and its efforts contribute to supporting economic diversification and sustainable development.

road map

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has developed an academic roadmap, initiatives and training programs that enabled it to consolidate the presence of Emirati women in an advanced and responsible position within one of the most recent peaceful nuclear projects in the world.

Perhaps the most prominent stations that contributed to enhancing the representation of national cadres is the “Energy Pioneers” program, which was launched by the Foundation in 2009 and provided the best scholarships in cooperation with the most important local and international academic institutions.

• The percentage of Emirati women's representation in the country's nuclear sector is 20% of the total workforce.
