Why is the air cargo market "hot"

  Our reporter Cui Guoqiang

Recently, China Southern Air Cargo Co., Ltd. has obtained the "Air Carrier Operation Certificate", which will focus on providing cargo aircraft capacity guarantee for high-end manufacturing, cross-border e-commerce, fresh food, and cold chain.

Zhang Wei, general manager of China Southern Cargo, said that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is one of the most important sources of air cargo in my country. China Southern Cargo will provide customers with high-quality global air cargo services.

At present, the air cargo market, especially international cargo, is showing a "hot" development trend, attracting many "golden diggers."

Eastern Airlines Logistics Co., Ltd. was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange on June 9.

Li Jiupeng, general manager of China Eastern Logistics, said that imported fruits and fresh products are gradually being favored by consumers, and the goods have high requirements for transportation timeliness, which has driven the development of direct solutions to the origin.

China Eastern Logistics relies on the service chain of "overseas direct procurement + air transportation + distribution channels" to build international fresh contract logistics. Through the layout of the fresh food industry, it invests in cold chain logistics, cold chain warehousing and other fields to build a collection of transportation, products, processing, and cold chains. , A fresh food supply chain ecosystem integrating warehousing.

Private logistics companies such as YTO Express are also stepping up their deployment in the field of cargo aviation.

YTO Airlines currently operates more than 100 domestic and international routes.

Su Xiufeng, chairman of YTO Aviation, stated that YTO Aviation will achieve a net profit of 216 million yuan attributable to its parent in 2020, a year-on-year increase of over 200%.

YTO Airlines has newly introduced 2 B767 and 7 B757 all-cargo aircrafts, and the additional capacity will be put into operation in the second half of this year.

Yin Zhihua, deputy director of the Press Office of the State Post Bureau, said that in the first half of this year, the number of all-cargo aircrafts of the three self-owned airlines (EMS, YTO and SF) increased by nearly 10, Xi'an-Tokyo, Chengdu-Dhaka, Shenzhen-Los Angeles, etc. Nearly 20 international all-cargo routes have been opened intensively, and air routes to the sea have been further improved.

In the first half of the year, my country's air cargo and mail transportation demand was strong, with a total of 3.743 million tons of cargo and mail transportation completed, a year-on-year increase of 24.6%.

All-cargo aircraft transportation maintained rapid growth, and completed cargo and mail transportation volume of 1.522 million tons, a significant increase of 44.2% over the same period in 2019.

There are many reasons for the rapid growth of air cargo in the first half of the year.

First, due to the impact of the epidemic, land and sea transportation has been relatively blocked, and the demand for the international air cargo market has increased.

Civil aviation veteran Lin Zhijie believes that due to the shortage of transportation capacity, the demand for emergency cargo in the epidemic "blows out", and the price of air cargo has doubled, attracting capital and enterprises to increase investment.

Second, supporting policies accelerate the development of freight transport.

In 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Civil Aviation Administration jointly issued the "Opinions on Promoting the Development of Air Cargo Facilities" to promote the orderly and healthy development of my country's air cargo and logistics industry.

Qi Qi, associate professor of Guangzhou Civil Aviation Vocational and Technical College, believes that the main body of the air cargo market will usher in a period of development opportunities under the support of relevant policies.

Third, industrial upgrading has led to an increase in demand.

my country's manufacturing industry continues to rise to the mid-to-high end of the industrial chain, which requires high-quality aviation logistics as an important support.

Qi Qi said that the development of key areas of relevant industries has been strongly supported and guaranteed. Participation in the international division of labor in related industries has become more and more deep, and air cargo has shown strong demand.

Zhang Qing, deputy director of the Development Planning Department of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, believes that the professionalization and logistics development trend of air cargo has put forward higher requirements for air cargo.

The next step is to comprehensively improve the efficiency of air cargo facilities, improve the introduction of cargo aircraft, improve airspace conditions, cultivate air cargo companies, and build a fully functional and smoothly connected air cargo facility layout and a global air cargo network system.

"The final competition of international air cargo is whether there is a global air cargo network, how many ton-kilometers of transportation capacity, and how long it takes to transport high-value cargo abroad." Lin Zhijie believes.

Professor Li Yanhua, director of the Department of Civil Aviation, School of Transportation, Beijing Jiaotong University, believes that most of my country’s air cargo companies and airport cargo stations have established their own cargo information systems, but they lack unified standards and interfaces and cannot synchronize logistics and information flow. Failed to form a systematic statistical analysis system of transportation volume, flow direction, and cargo category.

The next step is to speed up the construction of an air cargo intelligent information platform, share information between different entities in the air cargo service chain, open up and downstream industrial chains, and strengthen the integration and upgrading of information from all parties to enhance the market competitiveness of my country's air cargo.
