Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2020... Nature meets architecture, technology and art

The Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai places green architecture at the top of its priority list, to help visitors appreciate the advantages and possibilities of integrating nature into our urban environments.

Showcasing green spaces, digital solutions and art as a whole, the pavilion embodies Singapore's vision of becoming a city in the midst of nature, as well as the spirit of sustainable development, through innovative and impactful urban solutions.

“The Singapore Pavilion shows the potential to develop appropriate agendas to integrate nature, architecture and technology, through various digital designs and strategies,” said Yap Lai Bi, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Singapore Pavilion and Director of the Architecture and Urban Design Group at the Urban Redevelopment Authority. She added: “We would like to invite visitors to think carefully about their relationship with nature, through their exploration of the pavilion’s digital green system, and its presentation of an integrated system for managing green spaces, water and energy systems. In doing so, visitors will be able to appreciate the importance of planning, the scale of the challenges to build the Singapore Pavilion, and the ways we can coexist with our natural built environment without harming both, where both people and the environment are taken care of.”The pavilion is witnessing the creation of appropriate microclimates within the “Rainforest Cone” and “Flower Cone” areas, to preserve rainforest plants, in light of the growth of many plant varieties, despite the harsh nature of the land and the somewhat difficult climatic conditions, which It allows this combination of lush landscapes to thrive in different environments around the world if renewable resources are used. The pavilion enhances the utilization of technology, to enhance the process of designing and developing rare landscapes, as caring for the types of plants inside the pavilion is not easy, especially those on the arched green walls of conical bodies and cones inside the pavilion. To meet this challenge, three models of climbing robots will inspect the green walls around the flower cone to check the health of the plants, as well as collect environmental data to monitor the performance of the pavilion systems.

The pavilion provides an opportunity for visitors to learn about the secrets of the science behind building the pavilion, through the “digital system” of arts and electronic games, as the specially prepared farming panel and innovative technological applications used in water and energy management, design strategies, enable the Singapore pavilion to achieve the goal of reaching the use of 100% zero-emission green energy.
