Due to the high house prices, the number of people subject to tax on one house with a publicly announced price of 900 million won or more has more than doubled in two years.

The Democratic Party has been pushing for a plan to narrow the target to the top 2% of the public, saying that it will save the purpose of introducing a tax on high-value real estate assets, but the ruling and opposition parties have agreed to impose a tax on houses with an official price of 1.1 billion won or more instead of the 2% fixed rate system.

As it was pointed out that it violates the principle of tax law that requires clear taxation standards, it was decided to use 1.1 billion won as the standard for the disclosure, which corresponds to the top 2% of house prices as of this year.

This year, the number of people subject to the one-family property tax will be cut in half from 183,000 to 94,000.

Converted to market price, one homeowner does not have to pay the tax of up to 1.6 billion won, but there are concerns that it may stimulate demand for high-priced housing.

[Ahn Myung-sook / General Director of Lucent Block Real Estate: Demand for relatively high-priced housing that is 'low tax burden and (still) cheap' may move again... .]

There is an opinion that the impact of this reorganization on the market will be limited as the burden of holding tax has already increased due to the realization of the published price.

[Park Won-gap / KB Kookmin Bank Senior Real Estate Specialist: The tax burden on multi-homeowners is still high, and the property tax is rather high based on the high-priced housing as the published price rises a lot… .] If

this amendment to the tax law passes the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 25th, it will be applied immediately from the end of this year.
