Facebook has published a transparency report in which it claims to have made moderation efforts to combat fake news.

But the firm headed by Mark Zuckerberg remains highly criticized for its management of anti-vaccine content.

DECRYPTION

Saturday, a new day of mobilization of opponents of the health pass and compulsory vaccination will take place in France.

Last week, 215,000 people marched across France.

In these motley demonstrations sometimes blooming conspiratorial slogans, fed by disinformation on social networks and in particular on Facebook.

The American platform has just published its latest transparency report, in which it ensures that it is making efforts in terms of moderation to fight against fake news.

Since the start of the pandemic, Facebook has reportedly deleted more than 20 million pieces of content guilty of disinformation on Covid-19 and vaccines.

3,000 accounts, pages and groups would have suffered the same fate, for the same reasons.

Some 190 million posts would have been the subject of a warning message for questionable content.

On Tuesday, Facebook had already announced that it had dismantled a Russian disinformation network that offered money to influencers to denigrate the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines.

Facebook still criticized

Facebook is taking action, but it is not enough.

The anti-vaccine contents are the most viral.

Worse, they are sometimes put forward by the algorithm of the social network.

All you need to do is watch a conspiratorial video and Facebook will start suggesting new ones to you every day.

The ambiguous attitude of Facebook does not please the European Commission, which wants to force Facebook and other social networks to harden their moderation policy. US President Joe Biden said that these platforms "[killed] people", failing to effectively fight against disinformation.
