In the United States, NHTSA is the body that deals with road safety.

The latter has just launched an investigation into 11 accidents that took place between 2014 and 2021 involving Tesla equipped with Autopilot, a semi-autonomous driving system.

Equipping all the models in the range (Model S, X, 3 and Y), this equipment would have injured 17 people and would have resulted in the death of one person.

According to NHTSA, all of these accidents occurred while the Autopilot was engaged.

Resolutely positioned against autonomous driving systems, the American body recently called on all car manufacturers offering them to report any accident that occurs during their use.

For its part, Tesla has modified the technical arsenal of Autopilot by using only cameras instead of radars.
