UPS, the official logistics partner for Expo 2020 Dubai, has revealed that it has enhanced its fleet of vehicles operating at the exhibition with a range of electric bikes.

And it stated, in a statement yesterday, that it decided to rely on a group of “Fernhay” electric four-wheel drive bikes, which it developed, after its arrival last April at Dubai International Airport, as well as the “Retail” tricycles, for use in presentation and training operations, and to meet Logistical needs of participating countries and visitors during Expo 2020 Dubai.

Alan Williams, the company's vice president for Expo 2020 Dubai, said, "The company is keen to employ best practices during Expo 2020 Dubai, and we are eagerly looking forward to providing logistical deliveries on the site, using electric bicycles throughout the event."

"We look forward to continuing to define the most sustainable, productive and efficient operations in the logistics sector during Expo 2020 Dubai and beyond," he added.

For his part, Luke Wyke, Vice President of Fleet Maintenance and Engineering, said: “We continue to improve our fleet by adopting a range of innovative solutions to enhance future use cases. Through our continued investment in alternative fuel technologies, we seek to lead the world towards greater development by developing a cleaner and safer business network to keep the planet sustainable.”

According to the statement, the new vehicles rely on a portfolio of sustainable delivery solutions that abounds in the company's fleet, which can improve air quality, reduce congestion, and reduce carbon emissions, in a move that is closely aligned with the UAE's circular economy policy 2021-2031 and the UAE Green Agenda 2030. Electric bikes are the ideal solution for commuting in highly congested areas, and will allow trained bikers to access five pre-positioned customer service points during the exhibition, as well as national pavilions and warehouses equipped on site, to deliver parcels, documents and merchandise for stock replenishment purposes.
