The expert noted that it is unprofitable for the United States to spoil relations with Germany and they will no longer be able to prevent the completion of the gas pipeline, but at the same time, in his opinion, the Americans will already be looking for ways to prevent the project from being put into operation.

Yushkov stressed that when Joe Biden came to power in the United States, everyone expected that he would begin to “violently attack” Nord Stream 2, but, as the expert explained, the American leader assessed the situation “rather rationally”.

“The project is actually completed, that is, it remains to lay a few kilometers ... It was clear that when all the investments had already been made, when most of the gas pipeline had been built, then it was rather strange to impose sanctions against it.

Firstly, it will hit the investments of European companies ... Secondly, the sanctions against the Russian side inside the project were already adopted in December 2019, even under Trump, construction is prohibited and funding is prohibited, "the analyst added.

At the same time, as the specialist noted, the sanctions and restrictions "did not work."

“You can, of course, introduce a ban on the issuance of a permit for commissioning, but these sanctions will not be against Russian companies, not against Russia, but against Germany, because it is the German government authority, the regulator, that issues the permit for commissioning, therefore the only thing left for the Americans was to impose sanctions against their main partner in Europe, Germany. And Biden chose good relations with the Europeans, but, nevertheless, the United States did not refuse to oppose the Nord Stream 2 principle, they will simply look for some loopholes in order not to stop construction, but in order to limit either completely prohibit the operation, "- explained the interlocutor of RT.

Earlier, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin noted that at the stage when the construction is completed by 96%, Washington can try to block Nord Stream 2 only through a "colossal break with Germany."
