As a precautionary measure, the discounter Lidl has taken all hemp products out of its promotional range because some of them are currently being scrutinized by the authorities.

We are working closely with the authorities, said Lidl on Friday at the request of the German Press Agency.

Individual products are currently being investigated.

Further information could not be given because of the ongoing proceedings.

According to the investigators, it is a possible violation of the Narcotics Act.

A spokesman for the Heilbronn public prosecutor said it was being investigated "whether the products that are offered there contain THC or CBD".

However, it is only a test process, not a preliminary investigation.

According to the Federal Office for Consumer Protection, approval is required for products with cannabidiol (CBD).

The trade in articles with a higher content of intoxicating tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is prohibited in Germany.

According to their own statements, the police had seized "a few products" from the hemp range in a discount store in Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, for the investigation. According to the Heilbronn public prosecutor's office, the results of the investigations can be expected at the end of next week at the earliest.
