The new conservative president Ebrahim Raissi presented this Wednesday, August 11, the list of his government to the parliament which will have to vote for confidence.

It is Hossein Amir Abdollahian, a personality known for his anti-Western positions, who will take the reins of diplomacy.

It is the end of eight years of reign of Mohammad Javad Zarif, considered favorable to the rapprochement with the West and the United States.

. Known for his anti-Western positions, he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the Middle East, in particular the Syrian file, before being dismissed in 2016 by Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The new head of diplomacy is expected to surround himself with conservatives and dismiss the moderates in the Foreign Ministry.

It is not yet known whether the current head of Iranian negotiators Abbas Araghchi, close to Mohammad Javad Zarif, will remain in his post to continue to conduct nuclear talks.

On Tuesday, during a telephone interview with his French counterpart, Ebrahim Raissi affirmed that " 

in any negotiation, the rights of the Iranian people must be preserved and guaranteed 

".

Vienna negotiations compromised?

With the appointment of a tough head of diplomacy, the negotiations in Vienna to revive the 2015 nuclear deal are shaping up to be difficult.

Six rounds of discussions have already been conducted between Iran and the great powers, in particular indirectly with the United States for the lifting of American sanctions and the return of Iran to its commitments to limit its nuclear program.
