The "Merchant License", launched by the commercial registration and licensing sector in the Dubai Economy to license free businesses that are practiced from their residence in Dubai, and to enable various activities via the Internet and social media platforms, is witnessing an increasing interest by the owners of start-up projects in Dubai, where 13,000 were issued. And 430 licenses since the launch of the initiative in March of 2017 until the end of June 2021, which reflects the growing momentum of online shopping in Dubai.

The report, issued by the registration, licensing and commercial sector, showed that 3,243 "merchant licenses" were issued during the first half of 2021, compared to 1989 licenses issued during the first half of 2020, with a growth rate of 63%, which reflects the keenness of Dubai's economy. Males accounted for the highest percentage of the total "trader license", issued during the first half of 2021, as they constituted 63% of the number of licenses, while females constituted 37%. The report also indicated that most groups of licenses issued during the first half of 2021 focused on information technology, ready-made clothes, women's tailoring and design, handicrafts, men's tailoring and design, preparing snacks, commercial mediation, organizing exhibitions, and other professional services.

The "Trader License", which is issued electronically through the "Invest in Dubai" platform, Dubai.invest.ae, aims to guide project owners to the right path to start their first steps to enter the business world.

Through the license, Dubai Economy aims to regulate the process of practicing e-commerce, create a platform to support and develop trade, and link the customer directly with merchants.
