The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has put together a draft of the national energy policy "Basic Energy Plan", such as setting the ratio of renewable energy in 2030 to "36% to 38%", and obtained substantial approval from the council.

The basic energy plan is reviewed every three years, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has compiled the draft and presented it at the council meeting held on the 4th.

The draft states that the ratio of renewable energy in the power source composition in 2030 will be "36% to 38%", which will be double the current level.

By expanding the introduction centered on sunlight, we aim to thoroughly make it the main power source.

Regarding nuclear power, the rate is set at "20% to 22%", and the current plan level will be left unchanged, safety will be prioritized, and public concerns will be resolved before restarting operations.

Furthermore, the thermal power that emits carbon dioxide currently accounts for about 75%, but the plan is to significantly reduce it to 41%, which is aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The draft has been substantially approved by the council, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is expected to make a cabinet decision by the end of October after soliciting opinions from the general public.

After the meeting, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kajiyama said, "The environment surrounding energy policy, including technology, is undergoing rapid changes. We will only implement it and work toward our goals."
